Mesquite Sand Dunes

Being one of the most popular areas of Death Valley, the dunes are located at the northern end of the valley floor, close to Stovepipe Wells. They are easily accessible directly from the road but it will require a short hike until you reach the real dunes. The primary source of the dune sands is probably the Cottonwood Mountains which lie to the north and northwest.

Directions

Starting at Furnace Creek, follow 190 North for about 21 miles. Be careful, 190 makes a sharp left after about 17 miles (if you continue to drive north, you are on the North Highway leading to Ubehebe Crater and Scotty's Castle). If you are starting at Stovepipe Wells, follow 190 East and you can easily locate the dunes to your left after a few miles.
