Inspiration Point

Close to Sunset Point, the area around Inspiration Point is a perfect example of how the Claron formation eroded and formed Bryce Canyon. About 50 million years ago, a huge system of lakes filled the region of central and eastern Utah. Iron oxide enriched lime was deposited in the deepest beds, followed by calcium-rich mud layers and various sand deposits closer to the surface. The sediments compacted under pressure and gradually became solid rock. Today, you can see Pink Cliffs (the iron oxide enriched limestone) and above the White Cliffs (limestone and sandstone).

If you have some time, we recommend hiking up from Sunset to Inspiration Point along the rim. The viewpoint consists of three levels that provide a variety of spectacular perspectives of the main amphitheater and the Silent City (near Sunset Point).

Directions

After entering the park and passing the visitor center, follow the main road (Utah 63) for about 1,5 miles until you reach the intersection with Bryce Point Road. Bear left towards Bryce Point, the road to Inspiration Point is immediately after that intersection to your left.
